It’s odd, it’s weird, it makes no sense;
it follows no due diligence.
It makes a rule then pays no heed,
makes us pay for its awful deed.
It takes a twist, it takes a turn,
it makes itself so hard to learn.
It has nothing to guide it by
and no one there to question why.
Take a word like “thou”, plain enough,
Add “gh”, it should rhyme with rough.
It doesn’t ‘though’, now add an “r”.
Did you go ‘through’ each step so far?
English grammar is simply broken;
the good stuff, it must be smokin’.
By the time it gets in our head,
we’ll probably be close to dead.
