There will come a day
when, out of the blue,
our kids will be asked,
“What does your dad do?”
I’d like them to say,
“Daddy tells stories,”
or perhaps they’ll say,
“Makes allegories.”
No matter what words
they decide to use,
I want the words to
come quick as a fuse.
I want their faces
to light up with glee
due to them being
very proud of me.
Partly due to work,
but mostly be glad
that since I am home
I’m a better dad.
I know that I say
I’ll need time alone,
when people should act
like I’m not at home.
I say stuff like that,
but it won’t be true;
with you and the kids,
I’ll be stuck like glue.
I will find some time,
throughout the whole day,
to finish stories
in a timely way.
